Have you ever picked up a book, opened the pages to the beginning and started to read, word after word, line after line? Your eyes follow the black ink along the cream pages. Slowly but surely you forget the world around you: the chattering of school kids on their way to school or the crying baby waking from its nap.

You’re living in two realities: the one where you are on your way to work, and the one where you are playing Quidditch at Hogwarts or the pilgrim on his way to paradise. The train stops, you know it’s your stop, you get out barely looking around you, and you use your other senses to direct you. You dare not lift your eyes from the page that has you entranced, because the story grips you with subtle intensity. It resonates with a part so deep within you; it engages your mind and senses. You don’t want to stop, but you reach the office. The time is nine o’clock, and you know what you have to do. You reluctantly close the book and think to yourself: How long is it going to be before I can read just one more line . . .

This is the power of good writing, a mysterious pleasure that we have all experienced at least once in our lives. Now I’m speaking to the writers; you know who you are. If you know you have something within you to write down – something to share with the world that could have an indelible effect on someone’s life, even if but for a moment, why don’t you?

Do you realise that the gift you have to wield the written word, like an artist manipulates paints to create a masterpiece that touches the soul, is not yours to keep? It is a gift given to you for the benefit of humanity, this story burning up inside of you – be it a comedy, tragedy, romance, drama, epic or autobiography. It was meant to speak the language of another soul, to make them smile, laugh, cry, understand, fight, hope, believe, love and change. Let us help you publish your book.

My favorite task, after all the work is done (editing, graphic design of the cover, proofing, printing and binding), is to go up to the author and say, ‘Congratulations! Here is your book. You are a published author.’ It’s a very satisfying moment.
